As our Office Engineer/Field Engineer, you'll support the construction management and observation of a variety of heavy civil infrastructure projects. Depending on experience, candidates will spend approximately 50% of their time in the field and 50% in the office while learning the trade of becoming a Civil Engineer focusing on Construction Management at Psomas. This opening is for assignments with construction scheduled to start in Spring/Summer 2025. Projects may include roads, highways, bridges, structures, streetscapes, water and wastewater construction, underground dry utilities, and capital improvements. Project scope, complexity, size, and durations vary.
Key Responsibilities
Provide technical support of field construction matters including drafting change orders, reviewing submittals and preparing progress payments
Process project communications between client, design engineer, and contractor
Observe construction activities on an active construction site
Assist with document interpretation of project plans and specifications
Maintain project files, documents, and as-built schedules
Monitor Prevailing Wage laws, regulations, and labor compliance efforts
Required Qualifications
Education: Bachelor's Degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related discipline or in the process of obtaining degree by Fall 2025
Knowledge of the construction process and the ability to read, understand, and interpret construction plans, drawings, and specifications
Ability to work independently and in a team environment
An attitude of looking to learn and be part of an active and engaging team
Ability to work on an active construction site, including walking over uneven terrain, climbing ladders, crawling, stooping and entering confined spaces, being outdoors in inclement weather, wearing proper safety equipment, and practicing industry safety protocols
Preferred Qualifications
Engineer In Training (EIT) certification/passed the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam
Prior internship experience and/or relevant experience with public works projects for local municipalities, utilities, and/or a background that includes general civil infrastructure, public works, and/or underground construction
Experience working in a California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) construction office
Familiarity with the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) standards, specifications, and Construction Manual and Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) procedures
