EV Carshare Fleet Associate
15-20 hours/week | $22.70/hr | Start date: August (ASAP) 2026
Program Background:
Carshare members reserve and pay for their EV car share vehicles by the hour or day. Carshare rates include insurance and EV charging. Members access vehicles from a nearby “hub” in their neighborhood. To join, individuals complete a short online membership application. Once approved, members make reservations and access their carshare vehicle primarily from their smartphone. Surveys show that carshare members use their car for errand running and grocery shopping, getting to a medical appointment or a job interview, visiting relatives or their favorite park, and more.
Position Description:
The Fleet Associate supports Mobility Development Operations’ MI Carshare program, with focus on Grand Rapid’s DART evCarshare fleet. The position is supported by our growing national team, and has the opportunity for growth in hours and responsibilities.
The Fleet Associate will report to the Grand Rapids Assistant Program Manager with oversight from the Director of Business Operations and other national team members. The Fleet Associate’s primary responsibility is to maintain day-to-day carsharing operations in Grand Rapids, MI, with occasional need for travel to Kalamazoo. The Fleet Associate will manage a small fleet of EV’s and will be available to respond to real-time issues on an as-needed basis.
Responsibilities:
Fleet Operations (90%)
- Vehicle Inspection & Maintenance: Perform routine physical checks of all fleet vehicles for cleanliness, safety, and proper operation.
- Vehicle Cleaning: Perform interior and exterior detailing/cleaning for all vehicles on a regular cycle and in response to reported concerns.
- Charging & Parking Hub Maintenance: Monitor and maintain dedicated parking spaces and EV charging stations access. Start charging sessions and replace missing RFID charge cards as needed.
- Occasional travel to Kalamazoo and eventually Lansing
- Compliance & Documentation: Inspect and verify in-vehicle documentation, including up-to-date insurance and registration cards
- Light Mechanical Maintenance including:
- Monitor and inflate tire pressures, monitor tire wear
- Inspect and replace windshield wiper blades and refill washer fluid
- Replace dead/low batteries or perform jump-starts
- Replace vehicle lightbulbs (headlamps, brake lights, turn signals)
- Troubleshoot and resolve issues with in-car telemetry systems
- Schedule and deliver cars for maintenance and repairs
Member Service & Incident Response (5%)
- Real-Time Issue Resolution: Respond to urgent or time-sensitive operational issues (e.g., dead batteries, lockouts, charging errors, or telematics malfunctions).
- Remote and onsite monitoring of fleet and charging stations using various computer software and mobile apps.
- Member Support: Assist members with vehicle access, reservation troubleshooting, or usage instructions by phone.
- Accident & Security Protocol: Support accident documentation and police reporting when required.
- Monitor program soundness by flagging and escalating member rule violations
Outreach and Community Engagement (5%)
The Fleet Associate may be asked to represent MI Carshare in partnership with local community organizations, supporting on-the-ground community engagement/outreach/marketing efforts, including:
- Tabling at local events
- Distributing flyers or other information about the program
- Supporting new users in understanding use of carsharing program and EVs
- Establish working relationships with site managers, and resolve parking/vehicle/charging station issues at site locations
Required Qualifications:
- Familiar with basic vehicle maintenance and troubleshooting
- Able and willing to perform responsibilities outdoors in all seasons
- Good listening and communication skills (verbal and written)
- Outgoing personality; enjoy meeting and engaging with people
- Good recall and attention to detail
- Ease and familiarity with computers, mobile apps, desktop software, e-mail, and basic spreadsheet management
- Ability to read and interpret documents like safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Results-oriented and able to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions written, verbal, or visual form.
- Valid Driver’s License (minimum 2 years); and clean driving record.
Preferred Qualifications
- Understanding of and commitment to transportation equity and environmental justice and/or experience in outreach, community education or community organizing
- Prior experience in fleet operations
- Understanding of EVs, EV chargers, and charging apps

Work Environment
The noise level in the work environment is generally moderate. This is a hybrid position that will combine working at home on a laptop, navigating systems by mobile phone and apps, and working in the field in all weather conditions. Field work can include working in and around vehicles in parking lots and garages and on streets.
